Inspired by Imam Anwar Al Awlaki who talked about having a balance of hope and fear of Allah SWT.
Faith is like a bird with two wings.
{ Ibn Qayyim gave an analogy about Fear, Hope and Love of Allah. }
Faith is like a bird with two wings. One wing is the wing of fear and the other is the wing of hope/great expectations. The wings keep the bird in balance. If one wing is heavier than the other then the bird will not be able to fly.
We have to balance hope and fear. If we have too much hope then it is imbalance because too much hope can lead to indifference and causes us to become complacent in worshipping God Almighty. Indifference means that we become heedless and careless.
If fear becomes too strong, stronger than the hope, then it will cause an imbalance due to the fact that it eventually leads to despair. Despair is an imbalance and you need to balance fear with good expectations to cure yourself from despair which is a disease.
A great reminder that if you balance fear and hope in Allah, it will be true faith.
